Three Rivers Beekeepers and the University of Missouri Extension Center for St. Charles County will offer a Beginning Beekeeping Workshop designed to teach new beekeepers the basics necessary for their first year.
The course will be taught over two Saturdays:
- Saturday, February 27th, 9am to 5pm and
- Saturday March 27th, 9am to noon.
Both sessions will be held at the University of Missouri Extension Center, 260 Brown Road in St. Peters.
The workshop will cover the following topics:
- Honey Bee Biology
- The Basics of the Hive
- Basic Beekeeping Equipment
- Purchasing and Assembling Hive Equipment
- Obtaining and Installing Honey Bees
- Inspecting and Managing the Hives
- Solving Common Beekeeping Problems
- Preparing Your Hives for Honey Collection
- Harvesting Honey
- Preparing Your Bees for Winter
- Preparing for the Second Year
The price for the workshop will be $35 per person. So that we can provide close, one-on-one mentoring for each student, the class size will be limited to 35 persons. As the course is intended for BEGINNING beekeepers, we are only accepting those with little or no beekeeping experience.
If space is available, we will open registration for beekeepers with experience, but wishing to receive a review of beekeeping fundamentals.
There are three options available to register for this course:
Option #1 ... Call the Extension Center office at 636-970-3000 to register by telephone and pay by credit card.
Option #2 ... Open, print and complete the registration form found at the bottom of this page. Mail the completed form along with your payment of $35 to the address listed on the form.
Option #3 ... Open, print and complete the registration form found at the bottom of this page. Bring the completed form to the Extension Center office to pay by check or credit card.
All checks must be made out to "University Extension Council".
NOTE: In order for us to prepare instructional materials for all, registrations must be received by the close of business on Thursday, February 25th.
Those registered for the class will receive further details pertaining to the class at a later time.
